Zusammenfassung

Die Geburt eines Kindes ist ein Schlüsselerlebnis im Leben von Frauen und ihren Familien. Die wenigen Frauen, die peripartal einer intensivmedizinischen Überwachung oder Therapie bedürfen, sollten entsprechend denselben hohen klinischen Standards behandelt werden, wie sie bei allen anderen intensivtherapiepflichtigen Patienten auch angewendet werden, unter zusätzlicher Berücksichtigung der spezifischen schwangerschaftsassoziierten physiologischen und pathophysiologischen Besonderheiten. Diese schwangerschaftsspezifischen Konstellationen werden mit ihrer Auftretenswahrscheinlichkeit, der Pathophysiologie, der Behandlung und auch der weiteren Betreuung im Kapitel Intensivtherapie bei Schwangeren dargestellt.

Eine ältere Frau trinkt regelmäßig Sennesblättertee gegen ihre Verstopfung. Der scheint plötzlich gut zu wirken. Auf Durchfall und Erbrechen folgt allerdings eine Hyponatriämie. Nach deren Korrektur kommt es plötzlich zu progredienten Kognitions- und Verhaltensstörungen.
